How Music Affects the Palette

Having a quiet space is beneficial for everybody, especially for those who are seeking peace and relaxation. However, there are spaces with different intentions and adding background music to create the appropriate atmosphere is more effective as oppose to having no music at all.

The spa, for example, is where people go to unwind. It was mentioned earlier that being in a serene area are for those people who want to relax, but imagine not having music in this closed space. This will just make your guests uncomfortable and they might not even enjoy their spa experience. Just having a subtle classical music playing in the background will help guests relax and lighten their mood versus a completely quiet room.

All spaces have different functions and our senses immediately adapts to what is being presented in front of us. Now imagine, dining in one of the finest restaurants in your hotel with a top-notch chef and five-star food but found yourself not being able to enjoy your meal as the room is simply devoid of music; all you hear are murmurs and conversations of other guests in the restaurant.

Your guests might not be encouraged to stay and quickly leave after having their meal. Now what would happen if we add in a slow tempo music in the background that does not necessary overpower the noise in the restaurant enough for you to enjoy a conversation with a partner of a friend? You’ll be able to set the perfect mood for this space so that your guests can enjoy their meal and even order a second serving.

If music can affect a person’s mood, it can also affect their palette. How?

In an article written by Elizabeth Shockman in pir.org, Dan Pashman stated that “Research shows that when you’re surrounded by very high decibel level, your taste perception goes down. So loud music means the food will have less flavor.”

This shows how much music, even the volume it’s being played at, can affect the taste of food. Before creating a playlist for your hotel’s restaurant, you have to think about the best way your guest can enjoy their food and the atmosphere. This technique can also help boost your business as guests will be encouraged to stay longer and order more from the menu.

Another article from righstify.com states that, “researchers found that emotional foods, such as chocolate were rated as better tasting when music was playing. Non-emotional foods, for instance bell peppers, were not affected. They found that music genre was of influence as well. Jazz music showed a greater effect in this venue than classical, rock and hiphop did.”

You also have to keep in mind the theme of your restaurant; if it’s a place where you want your guests to experience fine dining or have a more relaxed vibe. Music is one of the crucial things to think about if you want to create the perfect mood for your restaurant. You have to carefully choose if your playlist will fit the atmosphere you want to create.

For example, if you have a modern-themed restaurant, you might want to have upbeat music playing in the background.

roman-bozhko-OXXsAafHDeo-unsplash.jpg PHM Sample Music

However, if your restaurant is leaning more into a refined cuisine-themed, then a soft, classical music should be playing.

nadia-valko-0hAdietsUrE-unsplash.jpgPHM Sample Music

You have to also be aware of the time before you press play. Playing something fast and loud in the morning might unnecessarily stress your guests and they might leave your restaurant in a hurry. Take into consideration that mornings and evenings might be the time where people want to relax and enjoy their meal. Always play music appropriate to your restaurant’s theme and goals.

With Play Hotel Music’s curated music, you can be assured that the playlist we have will generate the ambiance that you have envisioned for your hotel. We’ve created these playlists with your hotel in mind and have carefully chosen music that would elevate the hotel experience.

Tips For A Great Hotel Service

Being able to provide the best amenities shouldn’t stop you from looking for different ways to improve your hotel service. Improvements do not have to be grand or expensive, it can be the simplest and personalized way that your guest may feel more at home with you.

Here are 5 simple tips for a great hotel service:

1. Mobile-friendly Website

ben-kolde-cpLsWmMEa1Q-unsplash.jpg

The average person is on their phones for hours a day. So, it makes sense that you create a mobile friendly interface for all of your guests. Make you guests booking much easier with a mobile-free website. In this way, they don’t have to go through all the trouble of opening up their laptop to access your website. Offer visually appealing photos so they may have an idea what it’s like to be in your hotel.

2. Setting Customer Expectations

belinda-fewings-iz2rJYY2pjE-unsplash.jpg

You have to set the right customer expectations so you can avoid guests who feel like they have been cheated out of a deal and leave bad reviews in your website. Being able to set expectations mean that you’ll be able to easily satisfy and meet their needs. Don’t oversell and undersell your hotel. Be honest with your guests and give them realistic expectations, and make sure you can reach these expectations

3. Reflecting on Customer Feedback

burst-kUqqaRjJuw0-unsplash.jpg

Asking for customer feedback and being able to tailor your decisions for future improvements would be appreciated by new and previous guests. This will show them that you really take the time to read their feedback. And, it also ensure your guests that improvements will be made where it is needed so that your guests are more enticed to return.

4. Personalized Service

clay-banks-Ox6SW103KtM-unsplash.jpg

You can reach out to your guest via social media after they make their booking or you can also personalize their stay by including questions on their booking forms to gather more information about your guests to know what their preferences are and if they are more of an adventure buff or an indoor person so you can easily recommend them places they could visit based on their personality.

5. Readiness for Availability

malvestida-magazine-FfbVFLAVscw-unsplash.jpg

How To Control PHM From A Control Room

If you don’t like having separate set ups for each space then you can create one control room for Play Hotel Music. There are two options to set up your control room depending on the needs and available resources of your hotel.

Follow these easy steps to get started!

OPTION 1:

Step 1. Set up computers for each space you want to play music in. So if you have four different spaces, then you need four different computers.

Step 2. All computers are connected to the mixer. The mixer connects the computers to an amplifier which sends out all the sounds to the speakers in each of your spaces.

For example, computer one needs to play music for the café area. Plug computer one to input one of the mixer and when you click your playlist, music will come out from the connected speaker.

OPTION 2:

Step 1. In some case, you might not have a monitor for each computer. If that is the case, you can connect all your computers to one monitor switch which is then connected to one central monitor.

Step 2. You can switch stations from your remote control and switch from different screens. If you switch to station one, computer one will show on your monitor and so on.

How To Control Multiple Spaces With One Computer

You might find yourself overwhelmed with the amount of spaces needed to play your music. But did you know that you can control your playlist in multiple spaces with one computer?

Here’s how:

Step 1: You will only be needing 3 things – Computer, Audio Interface, and a Mixer.

Step 2: Connect the audio interface with the computer via USB. Note that even if you use more than one music player, the audio interface will automatically distribute the signal and send it over to the mixer so you don’t have to worry about using multiple players at the same time.

Step 3: Set up the different players on the computer and set each player to the appropriate input. For example, player one is set to play Christmas songs in the lobby, so this should be played in input number one. To set this, click the settings button and select input number one.

Step 4: Set the appropriate volume for the space with the mixer.

How To Add Promotions

Having Play Hotel Music in your system gives you several options to customize your playlist for each of your spaces, including promotions.

Capture.JPG

Promotions are announcements you can add to your playlist directly without disrupting the schedule of your music. You can smoothly add these important announcements at specific times of the day, whether it be welcoming special guests or refreshing guests about your hotel’s policies.

Being able to schedule promotions means that you don’t have to manually check your clock to see if it’s time to stop the music and place an announcement, which can disrupt the flow of the mood in your spaces.

With these easy steps, you’ll be able to add announcements to your playlist with ease.

Step 1. Log in to your PHM admin account.

Step 2. Click the “Add Your Promotion” button on the lower left side.

Step 3. If you click on the “Add Your Promotion” button, you will be brought to a page where there are several styles of announcements you can choose from.

Step 4. Select the style of promotion you want to add to your playlist. Say you want to add “Guest Welcome Announcements.” Click on this promotion. You can select the type of voice, language, and the type of promotion you want. Once you’ve selected a type, click add.

Step 5. After adding the promotion, it will show up at the left side of your screen. Go back to your “Schedule” tab and click edit.

Step 6. Drag your promotion and add it to your “Schedule” tab. You can drop your promotion anywhere you want your announcement to be.

Step 7. Select the starting time, duration, how many times you want your announcement to be repeated, and the volume. Then click on the “add” button and your promotion will appear.

Step 8. Save your new playlist.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Hotel Music

Being able to play music in your hotel is not enough if you want to set the perfect balance and ambiance for all of your spaces. You have to think about what music would suite your hotel the best and which music to play at a specific space. You also have to keep in mind the type of music you’re going to play on a particular time of the day.

Here are simple Do’s and Don’ts about playing music in your hotel.

Hotel Music Do’s:

  1. Do use music appropriate to your hotel’s theme. Playing the latest tracks in your spaces isn’t always the best way to attract guests. Your music should always match the theme of your hotel to create the right ambiance.
  2. Do play music on the right spaces. You have to think about the space in which to play your music always. Is it necessary to put music in your guest’s room or would they prefer to have a room wherein they can control their own music? Would it be appropriate to put music in the hallway or let the quiet buzz be background music enough?
  3. Do use relaxing music on spaces where guests would normally wait. You would want your guests to feel calm and relaxed at these areas so they won’t feel too impatient while waiting for their turn, like the lobby area for example.
  4. Do play upbeat music on areas where guests are doing extracurricular activities. You don’t want your guests falling asleep on the gym.
  5. Do consider the timing of your music throughout the day. It’s best to think about the type of music to play in the morning, afternoon, and evening and what mood you want your spaces to have for your guests to enjoy.

Hotel Music Don’ts:

  1. Don’t blast music on the speakers. Hotels are where guests go to relax and enjoy their vacation no matter what their agenda is. You should always be mindful of the volume of your music if it’s causing more of a disturbance than a background noise.
  2. Don’t play unlicensed music and stream music online. Not only is it illegal, but you’re also taking advantage of an artists’ hard work. You’ll be fined hundreds and thousands of dollars for playing music in your spaces illegally.
  3. Don’t play music mindlessly. You have to be careful about the playlist you choose as you want to match the music with the space where the music is being played to create the right ambiance so that your guests won’t get confused or uncomfortable.
  4. Don’t always play seasonal music. There’s a right time for these types of music. Only play these when the appropriate occasion comes.

Play Hotel Music has curated music with your hotel in mind. We can help you create the perfect atmosphere for your guests to enjoy. We have a wide selection of music from various genres and artists that you can choose from that will match all of the spaces in your hotel.

The Importance of Hotel Music

andrew-neel-B4rEJ09-Puo-unsplash.jpg

Music has profound effects on the overall mood of a person. When a person is feeling sad, they tend to listen to more slow and melancholic music as opposed to a person who is feeling happy and would prefer listening to a more upbeat and energetic song. A detailed discussion about how music can influence a person’s mood can be found here.

It comes as no surprise why having background music in your hotel is important. Music can have a positive and lasting effect on your guests and can even influence their decision into booking another room at their next stay. Having background music means you can control the atmosphere of every space available in your hotel; down from your lobby, to the gym, restaurant, and indoor swimming pool. Every space has to have a certain mood for your guests that will draw and immerse themselves in the present environment they are in. Music can also help in the productivity of your employees as this too can help them relax and lessen their current fatigue.

However, choosing just the right background music for your hotel can be tricky as this can be the deciding factor of what you want your hotel’s branding should be. Questions such as what type of music should you choose? Which spaces should have music? Might have popped up. This all depends on the theme of your hotel and the ambiance you want to set.

Play Hotel Music was curated specially to provide every musical needs of your hotel. With its AI-based system, there is no need for you to download any applications as the player is available online. Music is also being regularly updated so you don’t have to worry about outdated songs and keeping up with today’s music.

There are already ready-made playlists you can choose from or you can customize your own easily. PHM has a simple music system set-up where you can control your music easily. Play Hotel Music also has a one ID play everywhere system where you no longer need to create multiple accounts to log in and play from different spaces.
